BSB, NKOTB, Boyz II Men or NSYNC?: Boyz II Men
What’s your day job?: I’m currently a full time student at the University of Utah working to get my Masters in Sport Psychology. I also serve as an Academic Mentor for student-athletes at U of U and work full-time at Nordstrom Rack to pay the bills. I’m lucky enough to serve as the CCO for Accountable in Action, an organization that has already helped propel me leaps and bounds from where I was 12 months ago.
What do you do in your free time?: Anyone who knows me knows that I am an avid list maker. Yeah, I’m that girl that puts things on the list that I’ve already accomplished just so I can cross it off. But what really holds me accountable is my commitment to others. I don’t want to let down those who are important to me so I do whatever I can to accomplish goals I set out. Even if those goals have nothing to do with others, I want them to know that I follow through and they can count on me.
What fuels you to take action?: I am a huge believer in the idea that if you put yourself out there, opportunities will come. It doesn’t matter how you extend yourself or in what arena, jumping in with both feet to anything inevitably leads to opportunities you were hoping for or ones you didn’t know were meant for you (yet). This motivates me to keep pushing the boundaries and stretching the limits. Remember, in many things, there is never a “good time” to get started. So you might as well jump in!
How do you inspire progress in others?: I try to lead by example, but most important I am constantly encouraging. One of my favorite quotes I’ve learned through Accountable in Action is that “oftentimes, all that is needed is a reminder of what is out there for you.” We all lose sight of that at times (myself included) and sometimes we need a friend, Ally, or even a complete stranger to help us see that again. I strive to be that support and encouragement for others, as I have found that to be the very thing to help me find my own path time and time again.
What is a recent accomplishment you’re proud of?: I recently decided to go back to school. After a 6-7 year hiatus, I bit the bullet and applied. Within the same month that I decided to leave my last job, I found out I was pregnant and also that I got accepted to school. Holy life change. I could’ve easily decided that the time wasn’t right to return, but with the amazing support of my husband and family, I jumped in with both feet. Sure, things are crazy, but I couldn’t have made a better decision to help me find my passion again and work toward a better future for myself and my family.
What do you do in your free time? Assuming you have free time!: I like to talk to my friends on the phone. Oh, wait, I’m not in 7th grade anymore? But in reality, I like to connect with those I care about, even though we may not be close in location. Having that social support and extending it to others keeps me balanced in a way that Facebook just can’t satisfy. I also like to eat lots of cereal, read, travel, and I am currently preparing for my first baby due in November!
