I have multiple day jobs. I am a Network Systems Analyst at a semiconductor company in San Jose, CA. That’s basically a long name for a computer geek – I do computer programming and Excel work for the company. I really enjoy it – it lets me tap into my nerdy side. I also am a travel agent with Ticket to Travel. I am an independent agent, which means I don’t work in a travel office. I love this job just as much, especially because it’s the complete opposite of my semiconductor job. I realized a few years ago that what makes me the happiest in this life is doing a variety of things semi-well instead of being an expert in just one area, so having these two incredibly different jobs to do every day is very rewarding for me. And of course I have to now add in “Mom” as a day job. My beautiful daughter was born on 10/30/2013 so I’m still getting used to this job!

To hold myself accountable, I trust my gut. If what I’m doing doesn’t sit right with me, I know that I am not truly doing the best thing, even if it seemed like the right thing at first. But sometimes my own biases can get in the way. Luckily for me, I married a very good man and I also trust his gut. So that’s the advice I would give. Trust your gut, but also find someone in your life who has proven to you that you can trust their advice.

My high school’s motto was “Actions speak louder than words” and I agree with that. Words are helpful and sometimes a kind word of encouragement is just what was needed. But most of the time, what people really need to get them going is specific direction. The best help you can give another is an action they can follow to help get them moving.

My daughter! Haha I know every new parent says this, but it’s absolutely true. She is my greatest accomplishment. Pregnancy and parenthood is a fantastic, humbling experience. It really teaches you that you simply cannot control the situation, no matter how hard you try. I planned every second of my pregnancy and birth and little to nothing went according to plan! So I had to learn to react on my toes and be tough and resilient in situations I didn’t plan for. It made me a stronger person. Plus, I got the cutest little girl ever out of it. 🙂
