I have a set of core standards that I try to live everyday, no matter what I am doing. I hold myself to these standards and know that if I live by them I will present myself in the best way possible. Living by these standards, and surrounding myself with people who live by similar standards, is how I hold myself accountable.

While this was always something I talked about doing, committing to moving thousands of miles away from my family for about nine months out of the year was a pretty big decision. It’s one that I will be proud of for the rest of my life because it has been extremely influential on who I am as a person today. I have become so much more independent and self sufficient. The experiences that I have had as a result to moving out here – joining a sorority, getting an on campus job and acclimating to a whole new culture have really shaped my personality and outlook on life. I am much more confident, ambitious and goal orientated than I was three and a half years ago and this journey has a lot to do with that. It has strengthened the relationship I have with my family and even my friends out here and has taught me just how precious the time we have with our loved ones really is. When you got for months, and now even years, without seeing someone that you love you realize just how important your time with them is.
