It’s complicated. This is my second year at Carpinteria High School as the full-time Athletic Trainer. I also teach ROP Sports Medicine which was a new program last year. If that wasn’t enough, I also work as a PE assistant and help coach Track and Field in the Spring. Wearing several hats at once is my thing.

Some of my largest personal transformations have occurred in the last two years. After graduating from Chapman University in 2011 I felt very uncertain on where my life was headed, but I knew I had to trust the process of trial and error. After an emotionally and mentally tough first year as a post-grad, I landed an amazing opportunity to work at my old high school for the job I currently have. I was skeptical that could even pull it off after a year of not working as an ATC and absolutely no teaching experience, but I’ve never been one to turn something down because it might be challenging. Sure, its cheesy but I love the saying, “Nobody said it would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.”

I truly believe that it is the people that you surround yourself with that make you who you are. My friends, family, teammates and colleagues; those are the people I would bend over backwards for because they make me who I am. As I reflect, I think the reason for why I hold so strongly to “my people,” is because of my life-long love, soccer. All the blood, sweat and tears were all for my teammates around me and for a common goal. I don’t know if that kind of loyalty and respect can be taught any other way. The relationships that I have are my most precious possessions.

I recently tried out for a women’s soccer team that will be traveling to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. After three tryout sessions, I found out that I am one of 22 women traveling to Brazil in the summer of 2014. I set several personal and professional goals this year. One of them has been achieved after making this team. I am beyond thrilled for this opportunity of a lifetime.
