Oftentimes, female attorneys are perceived or told that they must act a certain way – namely, tough and uncompromising (in other words- unpleasant individuals) – in order to succeed in their field. I constantly remind myself that true success is doing my best while understanding to always take a step back and think of how others have helped me. I also try to remember to take a deep breath before jumping to a conclusion about someone and imagining myself in that person’s situation

When I see injustice or unfairness… I cannot stand it when I see someone treated poorly and unfairly. I believe this happens because there are those who lack self-awareness and empathy. I cannot always stop these incidents from happening, but I believe that by being empathetic, I can stop the cycle and, hopefully, inspire others to do the same.

I feel that people often tell others how and what they should do, but that they do not abide by the same principles in their personal lives. Thus, I think that in order to really inspire progress in others, I have to not only believe in what I am saying, but to live it. As I am sure everyone has heard over and over again – “Action speaks louder than words.”

I would create a foundation which focuses on funding non-profits that provide assistance to veterans. Instead of creating another non-profit to assist veterans, I would learn about the numerous organizations that already exist to help the men and women who sacrifice their lives to serve our country. With my foundation, I could help fund numerous organizations.

A definite game changing moment in my life occurred when I was not accepted into my number one choice for college. I recall sitting in my room, holding the rejection letter, and thinking “WHY???” I thought I had done everything possible to get into this university – I met the score requirements, had interned and volunteered all four years of high school so I would have a well-rounded resume, and wrote the best essay possible; yet, I did not get my happy ending. At that point in time, I felt like everything I worked for during the past four years was so pointless. However, I then decided that I couldn’t go on being bitter and sad and to make the most of my college experience elsewhere. To this day, I truly believe that “everything happens in life for a reason” because if I did not go to Cal, I would not have met the amazing friends who have remained by my side for over ten years or have had the exciting adventures that could never be replaced or taken place elsewhere.
